Description
When visiting a mask maker's workshop in Bali, Indonesia, I was captivated by the detail of the hand carved and hand painted masks used in stage plays. The face is painted in watercolor on pastel paper. To capture the mask's deep relief and detail, I built up the gold with Golden's Tar Gel, applied gold leaf and set it with an iron. The earrings were done the same way with a deeper build up of Tar Gel. The background is pastel.
