A single tree leads the seasonal rush into fall colors along the shoreline of Lake Powhatan. Part of the Pisgah National Forest, this park is both conveniently located to Asheville NC and wonderfully isolated from city life. I chose to capture this scene with liquid watercolor paints on Yupo paper, a synthetic surface that retains the full vibrancy of each color. Looking at this painting takes me back to standing along that shoreline watching the surrounding forest reflect perfectly on the still water by the late afternoon light. I hope that this painting triggers a fond memory for you or tickles the desire to get out and experience the beauty of nature first hand.
